CLO 3D Beginners Course Guide

This is a free online CLO 3D beginners course guide [Updated, 2024]. With this guide understand how the fashion industry is changing with digital fashion.

Technology is becoming an integral part of every industry and the fashion industry is no exception.

One such advancement is happening in 3D digital Fashion with software like CLO 3D and others. Every major brand, export house, and manufacturer adopts 3D technology for better design communication, lead time, and sustainability.

I initiated this course to assist my four friends in comprehending 3D clothing technology, encompassing software such as CLO, Blender, DazStudio Mixamo, and pattern making.

This endeavor has grown exponentially, catering to over 2800+ fashion students and professionals from more than 10+ countries. Participants include individuals affiliated with renowned brands and institutions such as NIKE, Harvard, FIT, UAL, and NID. (check student feedback).

Step 1. Understanding 3D Fashion Space (3min)

Before you start let's first understand what is 3D/digital Fashion and how to think about all the different topics and software like CLO3D / marvelous designer, Blender, DazStudio, MakeHuman, texture development, Animation, Avatar development, Mixamo, and digital Pattern-making.

Step 2. How 3D is changing the fashion industry? (3min)

Let's understand how the fashion industry is changing for individual designers, fashion brands, and the future. The major changes happening in the fashion industry are in the area of 3D-Fashion, sustainability, development of better materials/fabric, and VR/AR. Let's look into how these things are making the fashion industry more efficient and better for the future.

Step 3. Getting started with 3D-Fashion!

Time to get your software done and don't worry all the software are free except CLO3D. CLO-3D gives you one month free trial in one user id so when one month gets over install with a new user id 😉 Rest all are free.

I have made this course keeping in mind all the free and open-source software and resources so that everyone can be a part of this. All you need is a mac or windows laptop/pc with minimum intel i5 processor and a lot of love for fashion 🙂

Step 4. Creating your first dress (18min)

Let's start with learning something fun. Time to get started with learning the basics of creating dress in CLO-3D. It is simple and will help you to understand some basic tools of CLO3D. Always remember softwares are just tools, understand the concepts so that you can adapt to any new software in the future.
